Qualifications:
Required:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Graphics or related field. Five years experience in computer graphics, immersive environments, and visualization applications. Experience working with faculty, supervising graduate and undergraduate students. Research experience as evidenced by publications, grants, recognized professional standing in the research community, professional awards, etc. Specialized technical knowledge and background in related technologies (e.g., haptics, I/O devices, GPUs, graphics and simulation software, collaborative VR and tele-immersion). Extensive knowledge of real-time computer graphics programming API's, including OpenGL and/or DirectX. Expert understanding of computer graphics algorithms. Object-oriented C++ programming skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to develop research papers, conduct presentations and teach classes. Ability to foster and maintain collaborations with both academic and industrial researchers.
Preferred:
Experience successfully writing and managing large funded grant projects.
Job duties:
The Research Scientist for the Envision Center will perform research, supervise graduate students and research projects, development, and support activities involving advanced scientific visualization techniques and technologies. These activities include the design, development, and deployment of software technologies that enable researchers to analyze massive data sets using resources ranging from PCs to immersive visualization environments with multiple platform rendering systems. Particular emphasis for scientific visualization activities at the Envision Center include large-scale data analysis and feature detection, advanced visualization hardware technologies, immersive visualization techniques, and grid-enabled visualization.
